Ferrari updates not good enough, bemoans Binotto

Ferrari updates not good enough, bemoans Binotto

A frustrated Mattia Binotto watched his Ferrari's finish fourth and fifth in the Spanish Grand Prix and miles off the pace in Barcelona, and added that the changes the team brought to the car simply did not work.

Mercedes were too good for the chasing pack on Sunday, with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas recording their fifth consecutive one-two of the season, breaking their own record in the process.

A mixture of muddled team strategy and tyre issues left both Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel struggling to find any kind of pace and Binotto admitted to Corriere dello Sport that what the team had planned in terms of updates were just not enough to compete.

Ferrari are already 96 points behind Mercedes in the constructor's championship.

He said: "For us it was a lesson, but also a stimulus to do better.

"It was not a good afternoon, nor a good week. Congratulations to the Mercedes that has worked a lot and well but for us this must be a stimulus to work harder.

"The updates we brought were not enough. It was a bad defeat that we will analyse in these two days of testing.

"We won't give up."

Ferrari are already a gigantic 96 points behind Mercedes in the constructor's standings, just five races into the season.
