Sainz planning Real Madrid tribute at McLaren
Carlos Sainz says he will celebrate his Real Madrid fandom by wearing the club's crest on his helmet when he moves to McLaren in 2019. Sainz is often seen wearing the Spanish soccer giants' kit around the F1 paddock and is planning a more permanent tribute next year.
Sainz hosted a special viewing at this year's Monaco Grand Prix, which fell on the same date as the Champions League final – Madrid beating Liverpool for a third-straight European crown and 13th overall.
The Spaniard took to the drivers' parade wearing a 'Sainz 55' Madrid shirt around the streets of Monte Carlo the following day and says his love for football will be made clear when he replaces Fernando Alonso at McLaren next year.
"Alonso and I are the better players, the ones that stand out, but then the other players are pretty rubbish," Sainz told AS.
"I'm going to put the Real Madrid badge on my racing helmet next season!"
HALA MADRID!!
