Kubica 'ready' to replace Stroll at Williams
Robert Kubica says he will be "ready" to step back into a Formula 1 race seat with Williams if Lance Stroll completes an expected move to Force India before the season is over. Stroll has said he "hopes" he will take a seat at Force India after his father Lawrence bought out the team.
Reports had suggested that Stroll could have made the move for the Belgian Grand Prix, but the Canadian remains at Williams - although says he is taking things by a "weekend to weekend basis".
Officials from both Force India and Williams have remained guarded on the subject - Claire Williams said at Spa-Francorchamps on Friday that it was "slightly odd" for Stroll to race at one team, while his father Lawrence owned another.
If Stroll does depart, test and reserve driver Kubica will be expected to step in - in turn making a racing return to F1 for the first time since suffering serious injuries in a 2011 rally crash.
"Nothing's guaranteed," he told Autosport. "For the moment, I am here at Williams. I am not sure what I will be doing in the future.
"I feel ready because otherwise I would not sign a contract with Williams for this year.
"So it's on my desk that, 'You have to keep being ready and in case something happens, you have to step up'.
"Of course, it is not easy when you have to drive against the top drivers in the middle of the season. Although I have some opportunities to drive the car, you still lack experience, but you have to do it.
"I also think when Williams approached me for this role, they also have no doubts that I can do it.
"But what's happening currently and a lot of speculation is not affecting myself. I'm doing my job and then what the future will bring, we will see."
