Desperate FIA add third DRS zone for Canada GP

The FIA have taken the decision to add a third DRS zone to the track to the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend, mirroring their move for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on the opening round of the current season.

The move in Australia in March had a minimal impact on proceedings, with just five overtaking manoeuvres in the entire race in what was one of the most low-key races of the season so far.

Canada's fast-paced layout is generally regarded as one of the more exciting on the calendar and conducive to overtaking and exciting action, but nevertheless the FIA have reached the conclusion that an extra DRS zone is necessary in order to enhance the action.

The section will be located on the straight between turn seven and eight, and the other two spots remain unchanged from previous years; before turn 12 and after turn 14.

The move suggests that the FIA are desperate for an exciting race following the derision around the Monaco Grand Prix, which was branded 'the most boring race ever' by Fernando Alonso, while Lewis Hamilton claimed he would have 'fallen asleep' had he been watching at home.

It's a key time for Liberty Media in terms of their ambitions to expand the calendar, in terms of ensuring that the races remain as competitive as possible for most weeks of the season.
