Three grands prix in a row now, Max Verstappen has made the Red Bull mechanics earn their corn. After a race-ending crash in Bahrain, and a race-ruining one in China, Verstappen dumped it in the barriers during Friday practice in Azerbaijan. It's lights out for Saturday morning!

Verstappen's crash came at the start of the day and it also ended with the worrying sight of the Dutchman limping back to the pits.

Luckily a sensor issue, rather than anything more terminal, was to blame.

All in all, it left Red Bull with plenty to smile about as Daniel Ricciardo topped the timesheets, with Verstappen in close quarters, despite his limited running.

Mercedes started the season with talk of party mode, but the garden's ruined and mum's best vase has been smashed by the gate-crashing Ferraris and Red Bulls.

The Silver Arrows look third-best in Baku and their car is a stinker, according to Valtteri Bottas.

Lewis Hamilton is fond of a party, so this season can't be much fun for the four-time world champion.

Bernie Ecclestone (wearing a delightful mustard turtle-neck jumper) says Hamilton looks "fed up" and might not be in F1 much longer.
