Logan Sargeant suffered a huge scare after skidding off the track during practice for the Belgian Grand Prix.
The Williams star was touring at high speed at the top of the Kemmel straight but trying to brake and into the following right hander into a chicane, he simply skidded off the circuit and into the barrier, damaging his Williams.
Track conditions were dreadful for the only practice session of the weekend, with all drivers treating the track carefully, touring the circuit on full wet tryes as the rain fell heavily at Spa.
Sargeant had yet to set a so-called flying lap when he was approaching the Les Combes hairpin, with half-an-hour left.
The American star was unhurt in the crash and he also appeared to avoid major damage to his car, giving the team hope they could repair any damage ahead of qualifying later on Friday.
Sky Sports pundit Anthony Davidson though believed the incident was more than just a case of aquaplaning and suggested a mechanical problem with the Williams.
He said: "It might have started with aquaplaning but i reckon that's a brake-by-wire issue, somehow. It looked like he was pushed on."
