Ferrari "no better place" for Sainz to win F1 world titles
Sainz has joined Ferrari with the intent to become world champion
Carlos Sainz says he is "invested" in becoming Formula 1 world champion and has no qualms over Ferrari's ability to give him that opportunity.
Sainz is preparing for his first season in red after making the switch to the Scuderia following an impressive two seasons at McLaren during which he helped the Woking-based team to overcome his new employer.
Despite the Scuderia's struggles last term, Sainz is in no doubt he is in the right environment to fulfil his ambition of becoming world champion.
"Since the very first day I started racing I only had two targets in mind: to become a Formula 1 grand prix driver and to win the world championship," said Sainz.
"After achieving the first one, all my focus and efforts are invested in trying to achieve the second target and there is no better place than Ferrari to go for it.
"The ambition is to help create a winning team, bring the Scuderia back to the very top where it belongs and win the world championship."
Ferrari scored just three podium finishes in 2020 between Charles Leclerc and new Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel, scoring only 131 points in 17 races to record its worst season in F1 since 1980.
Sainz is under no illusion that the process to rebuild may take some time but is convinced the team will soon return to the top step of the podium.
"Every single team goes through difficult moments at some point, it’s part of Formula 1," he added.
"What really matters is the ability to bounce back. History shows that teams that won in the past are capable of being competitive again. Ferrari is the most successful team in the history of our sport and there is a reason behind that.
"If there is a team on the grid that can fight back to the top, it is Ferrari. I have full confidence in the project and, even though the process might take some time, I’m sure the team will eventually return to its winning ways.
"What you can be sure of is that I will give my absolute best to help shorten that process as much as possible."
