Alonso 'does not know how to share' - Piquet

Former Formula One star and team-mate of Fernando Alonso, Nelson Piquet, thinks that the Spaniard remains one of the best drivers on the circuit despite not winning the world championship for over a decade, and that he 'does not know how to share' in his pursuit of success.

Alonso is a two-time world champion but his last title came back in 2006, and spent time as the partner of Piquet at Renault.

Piquet has praised his former partner's thirst for success.

"Alonso has a strong character and he wants everything, he does not know how to share," the Formula E racer told Marca.

"But sometimes a great driver has to be like that and he is a great driver. Over ten years ago he was champion but he is still one of the biggest stars of F1."

Alonso has not hid his desire to claim the motorsport 'triple crown' which would include victories at the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the Le Mans 24 Hours race.

He has already won the Monaco GP, and will compete in Le Mans this year, and Piquet thinks the Spaniard goes into these other motorsport disciplines because he is hungry for victories - not for fame.

"He will be Le Mans champion. They are changing the date so that he can race in Fuji and taking advantage of the moment and I would do the same with my eyes closed," Piquet continued.

"I respect his willingness to race at Indianapolis, Daytona and Le Mans, which he does not for fame but because he likes to compete.

"But he is also very intelligent, which you can see with how he changes the helmet with every race -- it's commercial, to sell more replicas."
