Ferrari boss denies pre-season 'sandbagging'
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says that Ferrari have not been 'sandbagging' in Formula 1 pre-season testing.
Binotto has denied that theories suggesting Ferrari are hiding their true pace in testing are true.
“Honestly I don’t think so," said Binotto. "We know what we are doing, we know if we’ve got margin or not.
“If you look at race simulation pace, it’s true that today Hamilton had an issue, but his initial stint - the speed he got was impressive.
“Is that, on our side, sandbagging? No doubt: no.”
On outright pace, Ferrari have shown that they are almost a second away from the pace shown by Mercedes.
However, while Mercedes have shown pace, they have struggled with reliability problems, issues that again began to show in the early stages on the final morning of pre-season testing on Friday.
