Vettel track limits confusion cleared up by FIA

Sebastian Vettel has been cleared of any wrongdoing in qualification for the Italian Grand Prix.

Vettel had been summoned for gaining a lasting advantage after exceeding track limits, with confusion surrounding whether the stewards were investigating a lap in Q2 or Q3 at Monza.

In the stewards' final report, it was confirmed that Vettel's sole Q3 lap, in which he appeared to marginally cross the white line with all four wheels, was the one under scrutiny.

However, the Ferrari man will keep hold of fourth place on the grid.

The FIA report read: "The Stewards reviewed multiple camera angles, some of which appeared to show that the tyres were not in contact with the white line of the track edge however other angles appeared to show that part of the front “wheel” (when viewed from above) may have been within the bounds of the white line.

"This cast an element of doubt which is considered significant enough to give the “benefit of doubt” to the driver in question."
