Albon sets "tough" Singapore GP recovery target
Albon suffered respiratory failure after surgery for appendicitis
Alex Albon has targeted a return to F1 action at the Singapore Grand Prix after suffering respiratory failure following surgery for appendicitis.
The Thai-British driver was taken to hospital in Italy on Saturday morning due to concerns for his health. He took no further part in the Monza weekend with Nyck de Vries substituted in at Williams.
On Monday, the team issued a statement informing that Albon had been "re-intubated and transferred to intensive care for support" after "unexpected post-operative anaesthetic complications which led to respiratory failure".
Albon has been back in Monaco since Tuesday and on Friday evening shared an update on his condition with fans while revealing his plan to be back in action in Singapore in two weeks.
"I feel pretty good, I feel ok," said Albon.
"Obviously, on Saturday, I had a slight issue and the doctors did an amazing job. I'm very grateful that they got me in good health and out of the hospital by Tuesday.
"I've been in Monaco since then, have been starting to walk around and the goal is to be ready for Singapore which is going to be tough. It's one of the toughest races that we go to, so it's not an easy one.
"But let's aim high and see what happens.
"And just a quick message to say thank you for all of the kind messages. I have been reading them all, as many as I can, and it means a lot."
Thank you everyone for all the support! Looking forward to getting back out there and preparing for Singapore 💪 😅 pic.twitter.com/B4S7fltmLa
