Is McLaren right to divorce Ricciardo?

McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo have elected to call time on their partnership at the end of the season but is this decision the right one?

Ricciardo has struggled for form since moving from Renault to McLaren ahead of the 2021 season and although he returned the team to the top of the podium at the Italian Grand Prix, this was one of few highlights.

With all-new machinery this year, it was hoped that the Australian would be able to take the fight to team-mate Lando Norris more often than was the case in his first season.

But instead, the margin has widened. At the end of 2021, Ricciardo was 45 points short of the Briton, but this year after 13 races, the gap is already 57.

Such is the team's fondness for Ricciardo, that McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown offered the driver the chance to live the American dream and switch to Indycar.

Our question is a simple one, was McLaren right to axe Ricciardo?
