Lights Out: Hamilton's Senna moment, Magnussen's halo fear

Lewis Hamilton "did a Senna" (his words, not ours!) in Singapore last year, as the title race swung decisively, and the Mercedes man believes the Silver Arrows will be back and even better in 2018. It's lights out for Monday morning!

Sebastian Vettel's smash off the line in Singapore would ultimately turn the title, so it's no surprise that Hamilton remembers it fondly.

The champ has described how he had Ayrton Senna in his mind as he skirted around the four-car pile-up before going on to secure that huge win.

Mercedes looked to have added even more pace in the first test of 2018, and Hamilton says the team are looking to improve on their standing as the rulers of the grid, though he warned a surprise challenger could emerge this year.

Of course, aside from the fight for titles, this season will be notable for how halo fares after its introduction.

Kevin Magnussen isn't a fan of the device, and expressed concerns at how it could impact racing at Spa-Francorchamps' Eau Rouge, one of the most famous corners on the F1 calendar.

There's happier noises coming out of Toro Rosso, though, after they enjoyed a reliable first test with Honda in Barcelona. Technical director James Key talked up the chances of sister team Red Bull taking on Honda power, as they hit the last year of a relationship turned sour with Renault.
