Three new venues planned in 2019 calendar revamp

Liberty Media are planning to add three more races to the calendar for the 2019 season, with moves planned in Vietnam, Miami and Argentina as part of ambitious expansion plans for the sport.

Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone confirmed this week that he had previously held discussions about adding a Vietnam race to the calendar, with Hanoi the expected destination, and added that LIberty are '100%' in place to conduct a $64m deal.

Autosport reports that as well as the Vietnam deal, there are also serious moves to add a Miami street race as Liberty seeks to grow their US audience.

Furthermore, Buenos Aires has been identified as a serious contender to host a race, though it is thought that that particular negotiation is in its infancy and it is unclear whether anything can be sealed in time for next season.

It is also unclear whether these three venues are being approached with a view to replacing existing destinations, or whether Liberty are seriously considering a 24-race calendar, which has been vehemently opposed by some observers.
