Wolff reveals positive Covid test

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has confirmed he tested positive for Covid-19 earlier in January but has now completed a period of self-isolation.

Wolff is the latest in a growing number of high-profile Formula 1 personnel to test positive, with Lando Norris and, most recently, Charles Leclerc contracting the virus in the winter break.

During the season, Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez, Lance Stroll all missed races after falling ill, with numerous other personnel affected, including Williams boss Simon Roberts.

Speaking to Austrian broadcaster ORF's Sport am Sonntag show, Wolff explained he had now completed his self-isolation.

“We planned to stay for some days in Kitzbuhel, then out of nowhere, I had a positive Covid test," said Wolff.

“So we quarantined ourselves for 10 days here. Thankfully no symptoms, because it can also go badly, but we are now out of quarantine,”

The F1 season is expected to begin with pre-season testing in Bahrain on March 12 with the strict testing regime put in place last year still in force as well as other social distancing and safety measures.
