Russell handed back-of-the-grid start for Turkish GP

Williams forced to change PU elements on Briton's car

George Russell will start this weekend's Turkish Grand Prix at the back of the grid as punishment from the stewards for changing a number of power unit elements.

Coming into the 14th round of this season on Formula 1's return to Istanbul Park after a nine-year absence, the Williams driver had hit the limit with regard to power unit components usage.

That was primarily due to an engine failure in the first race of the season in Austria in early July.

The FIA has confirmed Russell starts this weekend with a fourth new internal combustion engine, turbocharger and MGU-H, and as this is not in conformity with the regulations, the Briton will be "required to start the race from the back of the starting grid".

Russell has extracted maximum performance from the FW43 this season during qualifying, reaching Q2 in eight of the previous 13 races.

While he has every chance of adding to that tally in Turkey, that will ultimately be negated by the penalty.
