Gasly could return to Red Bull, admits Horner
The door is open for now.
Red Bull boss Christian Horner says the door is open for Pierre Gasly to return to the team if his performances continue to improve, as the Frenchman comes off the best result of his career in Brazil, where he gained a podium.
Halfway through the 2019 campaign, Red Bull made the decision to swap Gasly with Alexander Albon of Toro Rosso, who has since earned the seat for next season.
Firstly, Horner provided some reasoning for that decision.
"We have the luxury of resorting to a driver pool," Horner told Auto-Motor-und-Sport
"Alex got stronger with each race in the first half of the season. It's his rookie year. Pierre, on the other hand, lost more and more confidence. He was outscored twice by his teammate. The distances became bigger and bigger.

"You just had to look at his body language. He has continued to pull his shoulders. We had to act and regain self-confidence. In the end, we had double benefits. We were able to try Alex with us and have Pierre raised again at Toro Rosso."
While Gasly remains within the Red Bull family with Toro Rosso, Horner says the opportunity remains for him to return to the senior outfit.
"Of course,” said the Brit when asked if the door remained open for a return.
“If that were not the case, we would have sorted it out right away. But he got a new contract for 2020 and thus the chance to recommend himself again for Red Bull."
