Ferrari promise upgrades for Hungarian Grand Prix
How will the Scuderia perform in Budapest?
Mattia Binotto has confirmed that Ferrari will have aerodynamic upgrades for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.
The Scuderia have had other upgrades in place over the past few races, but suffered issues for both drivers during the German GP weekend. In qualifying, Sebastian Vettel crashed out in P1 just moments after it started after a turbo air issue, while Charles Leclerc didn’t get the chance to finish Q3 due to a fuelling problem.
Binotto is hoping that Hungary can provide an accurate measuring stick for how the previous upgrades, as well as the new aerodynamic ones, are working.
“It will be important to see if this race provides further confirmation that our car has improved on various types of track,” the Italian said in his race preview.
“We will be able to count on the various elements we introduced recently, as well as some aerodynamic updates.
Of course, we are focusing on resolving our recent reliability problems to ensure they do not occur again.”
The Ferrari team principal reckons that cooling and tyre management are going to be two key factors in the race at the Hungaroring.
“Budapest is a track where cooling is usually an important factor and where cars run in maximum downforce configuration,” he explained.
“The tyres come under a lot of stress, because of the type of corners and that even applies over a single lap in qualifying.”
After the opening 11 races of the 2019 Formula 1 season, Ferrari are second in the constructors’ championship, 148 points adrift of Mercedes.
