Miami GP put to city vote this week
Liberty Media's plans to introduce a Miami Grand Prix to the 2020 Formula 1 calendar will likely hinge on a meeting of the Miami City Commission this week, with local officials set to vote on the implementation of the event on Thursday.
Plans to bring the race onto this year's schedule were abandoned after talks were delayed amid local opposition to the introduction of the race to Miami's bay-front area.
Four of the five city commissioners must vote in favour of the race in order for the plans to progress, however it was anticipated in last year's negotiations that getting the votes required would not cause too much of an issue.
It remains unclear if progress has been made to salve the concerns of local residents, with the Miami City Commission's schedule showing that the matter to be discussed is identical to last year's agenda – the exact wording states: "The City Commission wishes to allow SFR [South Florida Racing] and Formula One to run the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix from 2019 through 2029 with a fan festival to be held in October of 2018."
The Commission's legislation note states that the case may be deferred once again.

Last year's Miami fan festival was held on the same day as the United States GP in Austin, Texas, with the likes of Emerson Fittipaldi, Takuma Sato and Renault junior Jack Aitken in action.
According to F1, 80,000 fans attended the event at Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami.
