Sauber offer thanks to Leclerc as he confirms Ferrari switch
Alfa Romeo Sauber's team principal Frederic Vasseur has praised the abilities and attitude of Charles Leclerc and wished him good luck following the news that the Monegasque driver is to replace Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari, to become their second-youngest driver in Formula One history.
Ferrari announced on Tuesday morning that Raikkonen would be leaving the constructor at the end of the 2018 season, with subsequent confirmation that young Leclerc would be his replacement.
The change had been mooted for some time, but the latest unexpected development saw the announcement that they would effectively swap teams with Raikkonen returning to Sauber, whom he drove for in 2001, returning on a two-year deal.
Vasseur, clearly a fan of Leclerc, claimed that he will always look out for the young driver's performances for the rest of his career.

“It has been a great pleasure to support Charles Leclerc in his rookie year in Formula One," the statement from Sauber read.
"Since his arrival, he has given the team great motivation. We have constantly improved and we will work hard until the end of this season to achieve the best possible results together. We are aware of Charles’ talent and are confident that he will have a bright future. We will keep on following him closely and we wish him the best on his path.”
Leclerc took to Twitter to react to the announcement, saying he would be "eternally grateful" for the opportunity to drive for the Prancing Horse.
Dreams do come true... I'll be driving for @scuderiaferrari for the 2019 Formula 1 World Championship. I will be eternally grateful to @scuderiaferrari for the opportunity given. To @nicolastodt for supporting me since 2011. To my family??. 1/3 pic.twitter.com/O4GQVO570b — Charles Leclerc (@Charles_Leclerc) 11 September 2018
