Mick 'showing the Schumacher genes'
Mick Schumacher is showing evidence of his legendary "genes" as he continues to develop in European Formula 3, according to Gerhard Berger. F1 legend Michael Schumacher's son Mick has taken three wins in 2018 - each coming in the last three events.
Schumacher has taken a victory away from recent meets at Spa, Silverstone and Misano to move into fourth place in a championship currently led by Red Bull prodigy Dan Ticktum.
Driving for Prema Powerteam, Schumacher Jr's upturn in the second half of the season will swell hopes that he can follow his father's path to F1.
And Berger - who raced against Michael in his career, and replace him at Benetton - can see echoes of the seven-time world champion in the 19-year-old.
"The guy suddenly shows the Schumacher genes," Berger told Auto Bild.
"He has developed and is showing some rough edges.
"I hope it goes on like this. Everything is open to him. Everyone would be happy if Mick steps in his father's footsteps."
Schumacher Jr's upturn in form may well catch the attention of Liberty Media, with Chase Carey aware of the potential windfall of having the famous name back in F1 again.
"That would be a great story, of course," Carey said recently.
"Michael Schumacher still plays a unique role in Formula 1 as a world champion. He is and will remain an icon of our sport.
"Michael's son Mick in F1 would be special, of course. He would touch the hearts of many fans in a very unique way."
