Rosberg 'interested' in involvement in Formula E
Former world champion Nico Rosberg has expressed his admiration of the developing sport of Formula E, and added that although he feels his days as a driver are over, he would be interested in getting involved with the organisation in some capacity.
Rosberg retired from F1 just days after winning the world championship in 2016 and has fielded questions about a possible return ever since.
In a recent interview with Wired magazine he stressed that the intensity of the F1 calendar had taken a toll on his ability to do other things with his personal life, and with the number of races only set to increase in future, Rosberg has reiterated his stance that he will not return to driving.
However the increased interest in Formula E has led to Rosberg learning more about the sport, and he likes what he sees.
He stated: "Let’s wait and see. I’m open to explore so let’s see what the possibilities are but I’m definitely interested. I don’t miss racing, for me it is really done. I’m totally fulfilled and I am really excited about these new steps that I am doing now.
“I know quite a lot about Formula E, I have been following it. It has an amazing future, a great future. It is on the right track and Alejandro [Agag] is awesome as well so he is going to do the right stuff."
Rosberg added that there are certain elements to Formula E which are a clear improvement on F1, and he believes these innovations will draw in more and more viewers as regular road cars continue to evolve.
He added: “Formula E has hit the nail on the head – the hype is there for e-mobility and that is why there is a guaranteed great future for this because people are going to be watching and this is going to be the technology of the future battling.
“It is going to be right here. Never has there been a racing series where the technology is so one-to-one. It goes from the race car into the road car of the future that we are all going to be driving. All the best brands in the world are here fighting each other so it is awesome.”
