What caused Lewis Hamilton's Hockenheim failure?
Lewis Hamilton appeared to be at odds with his Mercedes team over the cause of the hydraulic leak which ended his qualifying efforts for the German Grand Prix in Q1. Hamilton was ordered to stop his car after running over kerbs at Hockenheim and is likely to start the race 14th.
Hamilton's initial attempts to trundle back to the pits were stopped by the team, and he was unable to push the car home - the champion's mood likely soured further as title rival Sebastian Vettel took a dominant pole for Ferrari.
Hamilton denied that a bumpy ride over kerbs was the cause of his issue, although team principal Toto Wolff had a different take.
Hamilton said: "We use the kerb the same every lap, so I got to the kerb and just before the kerb I think the steering broke. So that was the issue."
However, Wolff told Sky Sports: "The issue was that we seemed to have damaged a bit in the car jumping over the kerb and that caused a hydraulic leak."
Hamilton was able to fight from the back of the field to follow Vettel home in second last time out at Silverstone, but the Mercedes man is unsure if he can replicate that at a slower and twistier Hockenheim.
"It definitely was a tough one," he said. "But these things happen and all you can do is gather your thoughts and [take] any of the negative energy and out it towards trying to do your best the next day.
"Live to fight another day. Another opportunity to rise.
"I'll give everything tomorrow to see how high I can get up. But it's not going to be like Silverstone.
"I'm sure I'll be able to get through to some point but to where I don't know."
