Horner hates the halo

Red Bull boss Christian Horner has offered his opinion on the new 'halo' device, and has admitted that although its introduction will be positive if the safety of the drivers improves, he is not a fan of the way it looks.

The 'halo' device has been introduced by new Formula One owners, Liberty Media, with the purpose of protecting drivers' heads via a stanchion which goes up and round their helmet.

It has proved to be a controversial decision, with famous F1 names such as Lewis Hamilton, Niki Lauda, and Mex Verstappen all venting their frustrations at the developments.

Horner is no different, even going as far as to say that he 'hates' the device.

"There are unintended consequences you have to learn and evolve [with the halo]," the Red Bull boss told Sky Sports.

"I'm not a fan of it. I hate it. It moves away from open cockpit racing. I'd rather it wasn't there but the FIA introduced it and Ferrari backed it, so we were stuffed."

Horner went on to admit that even though he is not a fan of the new look of the car, the decision would pay off it it ultimately improved the safety of the drivers during races.

"If it does its job and improves safety, it's earnt its place. But aesthetically it's not very pleasing."

Sky Sports commentator and former F1 driver Martin Brundle had earlier claimed that the halo represented 'the worst tehnical change I've ever seen in a Formula 1 car'.
