Sergio Perez has likened his bedding-in period at Red Bull to "a dog finding a new family" ahead of his debut Formula 1 season with the team.

After being dropped by Racing Point - now Aston Martin - the Mexican will partner Max Verstappen at the Milton Keynes-based team following a sublime campaign last year during which he secured his first F1 win.

Following his first few days in and around the factory, Perez believes he has gained an insight into why Red Bull is one of the sport's powerhouses.

"It's amazing to be part of the Red Bull family," he said. "When you come here you realise straight away why they have been so successful.

"The infrastructure they have, the development and the people. They have very capable people here so it is in a way very different to the teams that I worked for.

"The organisation is tremendously high, with a lot of people and resources here that are impressive. I can't wait to get on track with my group of people.

"I was with a team for seven years so it feels a bit different - like a dog finding a new family. You have been with a family for so many years and you are used to seeing them and then all of a sudden you are changing."

Perez has not driven for a proven race-winning team since his one-year stint with McLaren in 2013 which turned out to be an uncompetitive campaign.

Now that he is settling in at his new home, Perez is relishing the chance to work with design guru Adrian Newey ahead of the new season.

"I have to say, I am starting to feel very comfortable here," he added. "It is a fantastic team, very united and I can see that there is a lot of fun ahead of us.

"It is just a dream come true, working with Adrian. With the number of engineers, the level of engineering inside this team is very impressive."
