Ferrari rules out IndyCar move after Haas staff migration
Ferrari was in talks with the American open-wheel series throughout 2020
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto has ruled out a move to Indycar in the near-future despite holding talks with series owner Roger Penske throughout 2020.
Ferrari had previously stated the team would look to other categories due to the imposition of this year's budget cap and the necessary redistribution of staff.
Penske revealed the Scuderia had indicated a desire for an entry into the series in 2022, but Binotto has now ruled this out.
When asked if migration of staff to Haas would diminish the chances of a Ferrari involvement in the short-term, Binotto explained: “We have been discussing Indy[Car].
"We have been in contact with them and we decided certainly in the short term that it will not be the case [joining the series] because it represents an investment and we need to stay focused on F1. “But discussions are still going on. Maybe more in the medium/long-term, I think why not? But today, still, our main focus and priority is F1.”
Late last year, as part of its staff restructuring, Ferrari confirmed Simone Resta was joining Haas to further solidify the links between the Italian and US-based teams.
Resta had previously been head of Ferrari's engineering department, with his role taken up by head of performance Enrico Cardile.
