Kvyat should 'have more kids!' jokes Horner after German GP
Red Bull boss Christian Horner has joked that Daniil Kvyat should “have more kids” following the birth of the Toro Rosso driver’s first child, which provided him with a stroke of luck on his way to securing his best result of the campaign at the German Grand Prix.
Kvyat’s baby daughter was born in the early hours of Saturday, but he was still around to feature in the GP on Sunday. Due to the rain-soaked surface at the Hockenheimring, the grid was shook up as a number of top drivers such as Charles Leclerc and Valtteri Bottas were forced into retirement.
This provided the opportunity for midfield drivers to shine, and this is what Kvyat did after putting the correct, slick tyres on at the correct time to eventually finish third for his third-ever podium spot.
Horner reckons if Kvyat’s first born brought him luck for the podium, he should have more!
“Unbelievable – he should have more kids!” the Red Bull boss smiled.
“I’m so pleased for him. He’s kept his head down, he’s fought his way back into the [Red Bull] programme... For him to become a father last night and be on the podium today – it was a very mature drive by him.”
The podium represented a true return to form for Kvyat, who has been through a rollercoaster in his F1 career. He was previously demoted to Toro Rosso from Red Bull as the team favoured Max Verstappen, before being dropped by the junior team too.
He was recruited again for 2019 to replace Pierre Gasly, whom he noticeable outshone in Germany.
“It was an incredible few years in my life,” said the Russian after the race.
“A lot of realisations in my life because it was sometimes tough times and I thought maybe Formula 1 was over for me, and maybe I thought, especially a podium, I would never ever have it again.
“But life just proves that if you work hard and never give up, things are possible. I think that’s exactly what happened today."
