Ricciardo clarifies 'I'm done' comments after Mexico DNF
Daniel Ricciardo has cleared up his comments made after the Mexican Grand Prix, confirming he will take part for Red Bull in both Brazil and Abu Dhabi. After suffering an eighth retirement of 2018 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Ricciardo said he was "done" with his Red Bull car.
Ricciardo was all smiles on Saturday in Mexico City as he snatched pole position from teammate Max Verstappen – in the process denying him a chance to become F1's youngest pole-sitter.
But there was familiar anguish for the Australian a day later as he suffered a hydraulic failure nine laps from the end while running in second.
It was his fourth retirement in the seven races since confirming he will leave Red Bull for Renault next season and Ricciardo appeared to put his shorter-term future into doubt after the race.
"I don't think 'frustration' is the word anymore," Ricciardo said. "Everything feels hopeless.
"You know, honestly, now where I am, I don't see the point of coming on Sunday, I don't see the point of doing the next two races.
"I haven't had a clean race or weekend in so long. I'm not superstitious or any of this bullshit, but... the car's cursed."
He added: "Just things are happening on Sunday which I've got no more explanation for. The car... I'll let [Pierre] Gasly drive it, I'm done with it."
However, after a few days to clear his mind, Ricciardo posted a video to his Instagram account, where he confirmed that he will be at the wheel in Interlagos and Yas Marina.
