IndyCar drops massive Alonso hint
Hold onto your hats, Tuesday could be a seismic day in Formula 1, with Fernando Alonso - and now IndyCar - teasing a major announcement from the two-time world champion. The veteran has been tipped to quit F1 for the American series in 2019 as he goes in search of the 'Triple Crown'.
Although McLaren CEO Zak Brown remains certain that success in F1 remains Alonso's priority, whether the team can deliver it is the major sticking point.
Alonso's best finish since returning to McLaren is fifth place at this year's Australian Grand Prix, but the team have slipped behind the likes of Haas, Force India and Renault in terms of performance and reliability since then.
With F1's records now likely out of his reach, Alonso has turned attention to winning the 'Triple Crown' of motorsport, adding a Le Mans 24 Hours victory to his pair of Monaco Grand Prix wins this year.
That leaves just the Indianapolis 500 to match Graham Hill's unique treble, and it seems we may get an update on where Alonso's future lies very soon.
With fans eager to predict exactly what Alonso will decide, IndyCar teased us the day before the big reveal is due.
We still on for lunch tomorrow, @alo_oficial? https://t.co/c59VdAHU18 https://t.co/VoTpoj8nNP — IndyCar Series (@IndyCar) August 13, 2018
