Perez airs concern over new visibility issues

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has conceded there is only so much that can be done by teams to improve visibility for drivers this season.

F1's new regulations were debuted at last week's Barcelona pre-season test, with all 10 teams hitting the track to gain knowledge and information about the radical changes to the cars.

A common theme from drivers' comments was the lack of visibility when attempting to hit an apex, caused by Pirelli's 18-inch wheels coupled with a new aerodynamic device wrapped around the tyre profile that has been included to control aero wake.

Whilst F1 drivers have long been unable to see the ground directly in front of them given the positioning of seats in the cockpit of cars in modern times, the loss of even more visibility, particularly for street circuits, threatens to cause issues.

Asked how drivers would deal with the potential problem, Perez said: "It is a question of time. We definitely have to get used to less visibility.

"We will all try to figure out how to get more but obviously there is only so much you can get in terms of seat position so we will definitely have to get used to it and make sure our position gets better.

"[With] Wheel-to-wheel racing, I think we will all get used to it. It is going to be another challenge for this year."

Teams will get a second chance to accustom themselves with the new regulations during the Bahrain pre-season test beginning on March 10.
