Ferrari "nowhere near the limit" despite table-topping pace

Carlos Sainz has warned Ferrari is "nowhere near the limit" despite team-mate Charles Leclerc topping the order on day two of F1 pre-season testing in Spain.

Leclerc and Sainz both featured in the top five for a second consecutive day at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya, also registering a combined total of 150 laps on Thursday as they again enjoyed flawless reliability.

Despite the promising early signs for the Scuderia, Sainz refused to get carried away and issued a caution to the team's rivals.

“It was a good start in terms of reliability," said the Spaniard. "We managed to complete testing so far without a single issue which is an encouraging start for us. This is what we are here for in Barcelona.

“For you guys, unfortunately, it is not very exciting because we are nowhere near to the limit of the car or finding where the performance is but we are doing laps and we are completing them nicely.”

Going one step further, Sainz refused to even categorise the opening two days as "a "good start", instead declaring it "normal because we didn’t have any single problem so far and I managed to do a whole run plan".

He added: “As I said, if it is good or bad I don’t know because these Formula 1 cars you can go three-four seconds quicker if you want to or slower.

“We don’t know where everyone stands in this situation.”
