Ricciardo braced for Ferrari Texas repeat in Mexico
Daniel Ricciardo has predicted a "similar battle" with Ferrari in Mexico as was seen in the United States.
Just three and a half points separate McLaren and Ferrari in the constructors' standings with five races remaining of the season.
The two teams have been locked in battle all year and although Ferrari enjoyed a pace advantage in Texas, Ricciardo was able to capitalise on a botched pit stop to finish ahead of Carlos Sainz.
"I’m expecting a similar battle to the one we had in Austin, although having not raced there last year, it's hard to say where we’ll truly be in terms of performance," explained Ricciardo.
"We’ll just keep focusing on what we can do as a team, try and score the most points as possible and see how the field shakes out. Viva Mexico!”
Ricciardo has endured a mixed first season with McLaren despite taking the team's first victory since 2012 and being one of just three drivers to have contested every race yet to have a DNF to his name.
After standing on the podium in 2016, F1's second return visit to Mexico, Ricciardo praised the atmosphere created by the fans whilst looking ahead to the second race of the triple-header in Brazil.
“I’m looking forward to heading back to Mexico, it’s been too long," Ricciardo added.
"The atmosphere is always incredible and that stadium section is an awesome part of the circuit, the fans are also some of the most passionate in the world.
"We’re really lucky to be racing there and in Brazil back-to-back, because the excitement around the races is unreal."
