United States Grand Prix: Confirmed starting grid with penalties applied

The grid for a now highly anticipated United States Grand Prix has been shaken up considerably by the latest welter of power unit penalties.

Following qualifying, in which Red Bull's Max Verstappen pipped Lewis Hamilton to pole position by two-tenths of a second, the championship-chasing duo start on the front row at the Circuit of the Americas as their title battle is set to intensify.

Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas could only manage fourth but serves a five-place penalty for taking a sixth internal combustion engine of the year, dropping him to ninth. Those behind him in fourth to ninth all shuffle up a place.

Further down the order, Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel, Alpine's Fernando Alonso and George Russell in his Williams all drop to the back of the grid.

The trio have all taken on multiple power unit components this weekend, leading to the most stringent penalty possible.

Vettel qualified 12th ahead of Alonso in 14th and Russell in 15th, meaning they will now take up 18th, 19th and 20th respectively at the rear.
