Sky Sports F1 pundit Karun Chandhok could barely believe what he was seeing at the Brazilian Grand Prix when a replay of Lance Stroll wrestling with his Aston Martin steering wheel was shown during FP1.

Stroll and Aston Martin experienced extreme frustration at the Mexican Grand Prix last time out, with the Canadian and his teammate Fernando Alonso both forced out of the race with power unit issues early on in Mexico City.

Stroll's task driving the Aston Martin didn't look any easier during FP1 on Friday in Sao Paulo when a replay of him going through Turn 6 caught the attention of the Sky Sports commentary box.

“Woah, what's that?” Chandhok asked on Sky Sports as a replay of Stroll taking the corner was shown.

“Well, it's just not gripping up at all through there,” David Croft replied.

“Yeah, but I’ve never seen a driver turn the steering wheel like that. I have never seen a racing driver turn the steering wheel like that in a high-speed corner,” Chandhok stated.

After further discussion between himself and Croft, the former F1 driver went on to refer to Stroll’s driving input at that moment as ‘bizarre’, before revealing he would love to ask the Aston Martin driver all about it.

“What I want to do is ask him why he was doing that? That's the question to ask,” Chandhok continued. "Because, you know, he's slightly beyond the slip angle of the tyre.

"What happens when you turn the wheel … he starts to feel the slide and then as the understeer starts to pick up, he just piles on the steering lock and just keeps sliding beyond what we call the slip angle of the tyre.

“Very, very odd.”

Stroll finished FP1 in P19, but also had a bit of an on-track altercation with Red Bull star Max Verstappen as they headed to the grid for their practice starts. The Canadian was P18 in FP2 later in the afternoon.
