Mick Schumacher an F1 world champion in waiting says family insider

Mick Schumacher is a Formula 1 world champion in the making, says Sabine Kehm, who played a crucial role in his father Michael's record-breaking success.

Kehm has managed the Schumachers' affairs for many years, a role that has taken on even more prominence since Michael's skiing accident in 2013 and subsequent health issues.

Mick won the European Formula 3 Championship in 2018 and stepped up to Formula 2 in 2019, as well as signing a deal with Ferrari's Driver Academy and debuting in modern F1 machinery at the mid-season test in Bahrain this year.

And Kehm says all the ingredients are in place to see the Schumacher name rule over F1 once again.

"I am sure that Mick will end up in F1. Sooner or later, though I hope it's the former," she told Die Welt newspaper.

"I am convinced that he will do very well there because he already does a great job. And then I can only conclude that Mick will be able to realise his dream of becoming a world champion."

Schumacher secured his first win at Formula 2 level in Hungary, but it is his only podium of the 2019 season so far and he is 12th in the drivers' championship.

"That's right, but Mick has had a very unlucky season," Kehm said.

"I sympathise with him because he has struggled with an incredible amount of bad luck. Of course he also still has a lot to learn, but I think Mick is very good at analysing things, learning the right lessons and then making adjustments.

"I believe he can become world champion. That is what he is working for."
