Schumacher to drive a Ferrari at German GP

Mick Schumacher will drive his father's championship-winning Ferrari F2004 at the German Grand Prix, it has been confirmed.

Hockenheimring organisers have spoken up the importance of having Schumacher Jnr in action at this year's German Grand Prix, with the race once again at risk of falling off the calendar due to financial issues.

With an attempt to bring in an extra round of Formula 2 nixed and Schumacher unlikely to take part in a free practice session for Ferrari, or one of their affiliated teams, a show run has been organised instead.

Michael Schumacher won the 2004 title driving the F2004, winning 13 of 18 races, a record tally only equalled by Sebastian Vettel, who raced in one more grand prix in the 2013 season.

Ross Brawn, Schumacher Snr's technical chief at Ferrari and now F1's motorsport director said: "It will be an emotional moment seeing Mick at the wheel of a car linked to so many great memories.

The F2004 was a fantastic car, which took 15 wins and both championship titles in a season that can be seen as the culmination of a golden period, which was the result of all the hard work from an amazing group of people and Michael Schumacher, a supremely talented driver.

"I'm sure that all the fans at Hockenheim will be pleased to see it roaring around the track again, especially with Mick in the cockpit.

"One of the requests we get most often from fans is to see the cars that wrote F1 history back on track, so this demonstration run at Hockenheim will be truly unmissable."
