Mick Schumacher appears to have let slip that Ferrari's 2019 power unit has indeed topped out over 1000 brake horsepower. With BHP figures ever on the rise, it has been rumoured for several years that F1 engines have been nudging close to four figures.

Schumacher got his hands on modern F1 machinery for the first time this week as he took part in the in-season Bahrain test for both Ferrari and Bahrain.

His Tuesday run in the SF90 drew particular attention, with his first appearance in a Ferrari remining the wider F1 world of his father's exploits with the Scuderia.

Having ran second-quickest on the day he was in action with Ferrari, Schumacher said handling the extra power was a major challenge, perhaps revealing just how powerful Ferrari's 2019 engine is.

Auto Bild quotes Mick as saying: "The car accelerates out of the corners so well. But you still need to have respect.

"If you don't, with over 1000 horse power it would be dangerous."

Dr Helmut Marko has previously claimed the Ferrari car "goes like hell", while rivals Mercedes are certain that they are outpaced by the Scuderia, despite winning the first two races of the season.
