The head of Jaguar's Formula E team Gert Mauser has predicted that the all-electric series will soon overtake Formula 1 in terms of popularity, predicting fans will switch off from the "boring" races being thrown up by motorsport's most prestigious category.
Speaking at the launch of Jaguar's challenger for the fifth season of FE, Mauser suggested that F1's races had become sleep-inducing in recent years, with Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton dominating victories since 2017.
The title rivals have won 26 of the 36 grands prix since the start of 2017, with a lack of overtaking in races having also caused consternation with fans.
A debut for Felipe Massa and more powerful cars that can run for whole races are set to boost FE's watchability in its fifth season and Mauser sees good times ahead.
“We are very satisfied with the development of Formula E - it is very exciting, very interesting races,” Mauser said.
“It’s absolutely not boring. If you compare to Formula 1, you watch the start on Sunday and then you fall asleep, wake up and say ‘is it Vettel or Hamilton?’. This is totally different to Formula E, which has lots of action.

“Formula E had six different winners last season, you don’t have that in Formula 1. The top 15 in the timesheets are often within one second, which is also a big difference to Formula 1.
“We will have nine OEMs [Original Equipment Manufacturers] on the grid which I think in the history of motorsport has never been seen before. This is really sensational.
“Formula E is the fastest growing series in the world at the moment. Last season 338 million people watched Formula E.
“This is a 48 percent year over year increase and if this growth continues it won’t take too long to overtake Formula 1. We already surpassed MotoGP on a race average basis.”
