IndyCar driver Robert Wickens delivered a message to motorsport fans from his bed as he recovers from a list of serious injuries suffered in a huge crash at Pocono Speedway. Wickens suffered fractures to his spine and both legs after a sickening incident with Ryan Hunter-Reay.
Speaking ahead of the IndyCar season-closer at Sonoma, which saw Scott Dixon secure a fifth title, Wickens spoke publicly for the first time since undergoing multiple surgeries.
Although it is unclear if Wickens will ever return to racing condition, he spoke of his determination to make it back to the cockpit as soon as possible in a heart-warming video message.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Robert. I remember all too clearly how it felt to be a patient rather than a racing driver, but you WILL get there. Trust in the people around you and in your body. It’s a far more impressive machine than any racing car.
