Grosjean feared broken finger en route to ending Haas points drought
Frenchman sustained the injury from gravel kicked up by Kimi Raikkonen
Haas driver Romain Grosjean claims the pain suffered from what he feared was a broken finger was "worth it" after scoring his first Formula 1 points in over a year.
Early in the Eifel Grand Prix at the Nürburgring Grosjean complained over the team radio about his suspected injury to his left index finger sustained after gravel had been kicked up by Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Raikkonen.
Unable to move the finger for a considerable period of time, Grosjean drove through the pain barrier, made worse by the cold conditions, to finish ninth for his points since the German Grand Prix in July last year.
Questioned as to his condition, the Frenchman answered: "It is blue, but it is better. I can move it, but honestly, I thought it was broken. It was straight in the car and I couldn't use it for some time.
"Turn 11, Kimi went into the gravel and the gravel went straight into my knuckle. It is blue so something happened but it is worth it."
It has been a tough season for both driver and team, with pressure mounting on Grosjean amid growing speculation surrounding the future of both himself and team-mate Kevin Magnussen.
With the team registering a single points finish prior to this race from Magnussen's 10th place in Hungary, Grosjean said: "I am very happy for everyone and all of the strong work we have done recently
"Since Silverstone race one, we have been really nailing the car and getting better and just the stars have aligned.
"Today, everything worked well. We did a different strategy which was obviously quite risky, to be on the hard at a safety car, but we managed to get the car to work just good enough.
"The pace when everyone pitted was good, I could push the car and then I went on the hard and it really behaved very, very well.
"Not so much under the safety car, but fortunately we could unlap ourselves and generated the temperatures nicely."
