Controversial NASCAR star Carson Hocevar slams 'fakeness' from Cup Series rivals

Controversial NASCAR driver Carson Hocevar has called out his Cup Series rivals, slamming them for faking friendships with fellow drivers.

The 22-year-old has gained a reputation for his outspoken nature since joining the Cup Series full-time back in 2024 and has experienced his fair share of controversies in the sport already.

Just this season alone the No.77 driver has been caught up in tussles both on and off the track thanks to his aggressive driving style and a very public error made on Twitch which prompted an apology for his offensive remarks about Mexico City.

But if there is one thing he won't apologise for, it appears to be his attitude.

Speaking to reporters at Dover, Hocevar said, "It’s just racing. Sometimes stuff happens. We’re all in the limit of everything. Of all people, I’m on the limit of everything. So, yeah, it doesn’t bother me.

"I don’t really like the whole ‘have to call’ and do that and have to apologize on Monday, say whatever. Because, I mean, even if you do it intentionally or not, you’re never going to say that to the person."

Hocevar rejects NASCAR friendships

The Spire Motorsports driver didn’t hold back when discussing his mindset either, saying, "It just kind of just becomes a pony show a little bit."

Hocevar was then asked if avoiding friendships on track makes it easier not to apologize, to which he responded: "Sure. Yeah, it does. I don’t know. I just don’t like fakeness. I like genuineness, and I know how I am as a driver, and I think we’re all two-faced, so I just might as well just cut it at the cord and know my friends are my friends."

His frank admission comes after he revealed he he has only ever hung out with one other driver during his NASCAR career, 23XI star Bubba Wallace.

Hocevar has made plenty of enemies out of his rivals this season, triggering bust-ups with Ryan Blaney, Ross Chastain and Ricky Stenhouse Jr, and had already been warned by NASCAR veteran Denny Hamlin that his tough attitude would only 'fuel the fire'.
