Denny Hamlin offers brutal 23XI verdict as team's drivers issued stern reminder

Denny Hamlin offers brutal 23XI verdict as team's drivers issued stern reminder

Denny Hamlin profile

NASCAR Cup Series star and 23XI Racing co-owner Denny Hamlin has offered a brutally honest verdict on the team's performance so far in 2025.

23XI entered the 2025 season with three full-time cars for the very first time, but with nine races to go in the regular season, none of Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick, or Riley Herbst has won a race.

Whilst Herbst can perhaps be somewhat forgiven given that it is his first full-time season in the series, more is expected of Wallace and Reddick, with neither driver yet locked into the playoffs as a result of their winless campaign.

Last season, for example, Reddick won three races and made it to the championship four at Phoenix, also scooping the regular season championship on the way after topping the points standings.

This year, however, Reddick's best finish was P2 at the season-opening Daytona 500, with the No. 45 recording only one top-10 finish over the last nine races.

Meanwhile, Wallace's best results have been two P3 finishes at Homestead and Martinsville, with results significantly mixed since then.

Denny Hamlin says all 23XI drivers should win

Now, speaking ahead of this weekend's action at EchoPark Speedway, formerly known as Atlanta Motor Speedway, Hamlin has cast his verdict on his team's season so far.

The Joe Gibbs Racing star made no bones about it: 23XI expects victories, and that all their drivers should win given the resources at their disposal.

“I just know the resources that we’ve put in at 23XI and all of our drivers should win,” Hamlin told the media, via NBC Sports.

“That is the expectation that I have of them."

Continuing further in somewhat of a warning to the team's drivers, Hamlin added: "Obviously, it is a result-based business, and if you don’t over time, you consider your options.”

Going further, Hamlin admits he has seen some things heading in the right direction within the team, but that ultimately, theY are underperforming and that more is expected.

“I’ve seen enough progression, specifically, from the 23 [Wallace] standpoint, that I can see where this can go,” Hamlin continued.

“Obviously, putting himself in a playoff position year after year is good, but winning makes it better. It makes it good for the team; it makes it good for your sponsorships.

“The progression is smaller, but it is still happening with Riley (Herbst) as well. We started at the bottom of the cellar, and it is slowly but surely getting a little bit better.

“That is what I’m looking at as an owner, but certainly, I need all my cars winning at some point.

"There are just too many resources, too many good people over there not to win more races, and certainly, I think we’ve underperformed as far as actual winning this year.

"We expect more, but a lot of it – I think we carry that burden."
