Schumacher insists no ill-feeling towards "valuable friend" Vettel after crash
Mick Schumacher has insisted there is no ill-feeling towards "valuable friend" and mentor Sebastian Vettel after the pair collided at the Miami Grand Prix.
The two German drivers dropped out of the points after the incident in the closing stages of the inaugural race at the Miami International Autodrome while fighting for seventh position.
After Vettel took advantage of Schumacher running wide at turn 17 when defending from Esteban Ocon's Alpine, contact was made at the start of the next lap with Schumacher attempting to regain his lost position down the dirty inside line.
The incident forced Schumacher to pit and ended hopes of his first F1 points whilst Vettel retired his Aston Martin due to significant damage.
Speaking immediately after the race, Schumacher explained: “I’m sure it will be good for me to understand what Seb thinks about it but we just have to move on from here.”
Informed that Vettel had been 'looking for him' but had not blamed the Haas driver for the contact, Schumacher added: “The same from my side.
"It is nice that I can learn from him. He is so valuable to me as a friend [but] obviously, we are racers.”
Haas positives despite unfortunate end
Schumacher and Williams driver Nicholas Latifi remain the only two full-time drivers yet to score a point this season, with Vettel's stand-in Nico Hulkenberg failing to score in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Asked if he was able to take positives from the weekend despite his late-race tangle, Schumacher said: “Of course.
"I think that the pace was there and even keeping Esteban in an Alpine behind on C4 [soft tyres] definitely showed that we had great pace.
“And also on the C2 [hard tyres], we were able to stay with the guys ahead and especially with Fernando [Alonso].”
