Ricciardo predicts bigger points "around the corner" for Renault
Ricciardo predicts bigger points "around the corner" for Renault
Daniel Ricciardo has said Renault is "not far off" from challenging for top five results.
Behind Mercedes and Red Bull, the midfield battle is once again proving to be a fiercely tight contest with Renault, Racing Point and McLaren being joined by Ferrari in the fight to finish third in the standings.
“We’ve had eighth in every race and look, eighth isn’t bad but I really do feel we’ve had a bit more speed than eighth place in probably all three of those races, at least the last two," said Ricciardo, who, after retiring in the opening race of the season, has scored back to back eighth place finishes.
“I feel like we’re not far off from one of those top five, top six finishes. I feel like we’ve got a bit more speed than Ferrari at the moment, at least it seems so, the race pace isn’t too bad."
Renault is currently sixth on 12 points, compared to McLaren in third on 41, but the Australian knows it only takes one or two strong results for the picture to change significantly.
He added: “It’s coming. It’s good to have got the points, but I know there’s some bigger ones around the corner.
“It looks like we had a bit more pace than McLaren today. I’m not sure where their race went, but quite close to the Racing Point. Not too shabby.”
