Haas tyre problems a thing of the past - Steiner

Haas team principal Guenther Steiner is confident the tyre problems that blighted the 2019 season are now no more.

Last season Haas suffered with tyre warm-up issues which on many occasions prevented Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean from being unable to compete.

Following the first two races of this campaign, Steiner believes the issue has now been resolved.

Despite many other problems that plagued the team's cars at the Red Bull Ring, Steiner said: "I'm very positive about that one at the moment.

"They [the drivers] say they can manage the tyres now, even if they are behind the safety car or another car, they switch on again. They don't cool down, and then we don't get them back.

"That is the most positive thing from last year to this one."

Following retirements in the first race in Austria, and with Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean outside the points in the second, the pressure is growing as to whether owner Gene Haas will decide to continue in F1 beyond this season.

With Haas in Austria to keep a watchful eye on the team, Steiner concedes the atmosphere could be better.

Steiner added: "His mood is, still, after last weekend not fantastic as you can imagine, but whose mood in the team was fantastic?

“I think for sure, we would have liked to have been more competitive, but we weren’t, but we finished with two cars and we made progress.

“He [Haas] is alright.”
