Mercedes get green light on Brackley expansion

Mercedes have been given the go-ahead for the expansion of their Brackley base as the Silver Arrows looks to capitalise on their current status as the best team in the country, having won four constructor's championships in a row in Formula One.

The Silver Arrows have claimed every team and driver title available since 2014, most recently winning both in 2017 with Lewis Hamilton winning the driver championship. They have been awaiting planning permission to extend their reception and expand their wind tunnel facilities as they aim to stay ahead of the likes of Ferrari, Red Bull, and McLaren.

Mercedes have over 1000 staff members working in Brackley which was previously occupied by BAR, Honda Racing, and Brawn GP before the Silver Arrows.

The team have been given permission by South Northamptonshire Council to conduct the expansion, and F1 boss Toto Wolff has praised the people who work behind the scenes, who will now be given a bigger and better platform to conduct their tasks.

"We are fortunate to have the right resources, which isn’t always a given, but importantly we have the right people," Wolff said in reference to the Mercedes workers at Brackley.

"We have a team that works together in the right spirit and the mind-set of success in Brixworth and Brackley. We have not allowed ourselves to become complacent, but remain motivated and energised.

"For me, I could not imagine working with a better group of people."
