The Vettel moustache is no more!
Ah, Sebastian Vettel's moustache, we hardly knew ye… It may well be back again before the year is through but the Ferrari man has opted to rid his top lip of added adornment after it failed to bring good fortune in Bahrain and China.
It was suggested that Vettel may be aping former Ferrari favourite with his moustache, which sprung into place between the Australian and Bahrain Grands Prix.
"I like Nigel," said Vettel. "He is a great person, and he was a lion in the car."
Vettel later confirmed it was a tribute to his own father, Norbert, although any fortune hoped for failed to materialise.
The German finished fifth in Bahrain, having spun out of a battle with Lewis Hamilton, which perhaps cost him a victory ultimately as the Mercedes man capitalised when Charles Leclerc suffered engine failure from the lead.
In China, Vettel was on the podium – his first top-three finish of the year – but could not take the fight to Mercedes and Ferrari's decision to deploy team orders put more negative focus on the Scuderia.
Perhaps the moustache had grown uncomfortable, perhaps Vettel is hoping for a change of luck, but the moustache is no more, as shown this week when Vettel and Leclerc met that team at Maranello.
