Sirotkin 'happy' with 2018 performances

Sergey Sirotkin insists he is "happy" with his performances in the 2018 Formula 1 season, despite picking up just one point in his rookie campaign with Williams which resulting in him being axed from the team in favour of the returning Robert Kubica.

When Sirotkin was announced as Lance Stroll's partner for 2018, speculation mounted that he was selected due to his significant financial backing rather than his ability behind the wheel.

Results would suggest it was the former as he finished dead-last in the driver rankings, but he remains satisfied with his personal performances.

“I mean I think I can be quite happy with what I did, to be honest. For sure there are certain things I could do better, for sure there are certain things where I was unlucky and were a bit out of my control," he told Motorsport Week.

“So a few things on top of each other for sure, at certain points the results could [have been] a bit better."

Sirotkin revealed this week that he would "investigate" the possibility of potentially becoming a test driver for Williams, but if that happens or not he remains eager to prove himself in F1.

“I think I could do much, much more, let me say it in the way that if at some point I had another chance I’m really ready to use it and prove that I could show much more than for obvious reasons I could not do this year," the Russian continued.

Williams will have a completely new driving line-up for 2019, with Kubica and George Russell stepping in for Sirotkin and Force India-bound Lance Stroll.
