Vettel refuses to change strategy in Hamilton fight

Sebastian Vettel has defiantly suggested that Ferrari will not alter their tactics or strategy for the remaining races of the Formula 1 season. Vettel enters the Russian Grand Prix with a 40-point deficit to Lewis Hamilton in the standings, with Ferrari also adrift of Mercedes in the constructors' championship.

With six races remaining, Ferrari trail Mercedes by 37 points in the team standings, while Vettel is counting the cost of a series of crashes and mistakes.

Vital points were lost, whether it be to errors or strategy, in Italy, Germany, Azerbaijan, France, and Austria, but Vettel insists that the Prancing Horse will not change their approach.

“I think it's very simple from where we are,” the four-time world champion said at the Sochi Autodrom.

“We are some points behind and we need to catch up to make sure we stay there.

“That's our target and the best way to do that is to finish ahead, and ideally ahead of everybody.

“So the plan doesn't really change. Obviously at this point we try to give it everything we have and I still believe that we have the chance."

When looking ahead to the remaining races, including Sochi on Sunday, Vettel told reporters that he still reckons Ferrari are in with a shout of catching Mercedes.

“I think we have a fair chance,” he added. “We had races in the past that we should've won, we didn't. And we had others that we won, we shouldn't have.

“You never know what happens but anything is possible. I'm not aiming to win all six races. First of all, I'm aiming to win here, then once that's done we go to the next one and we go to the next one.

“I don't think there's much point looking five, six races ahead. I think you're much better off staying in the moment at what lies in front of you.”
