Alonso assault continues from Haas
Haas team principal Guenther Steiner took a leaf out of Kevin Magnussen's book to aim a shot at Fernando Alonso after the drivers' on-track battle in Italian Grand Prix qualifying turned sour. Magnussen launched a stunning verbal assault on the two-time champion after their final Q2 flyers were wrecked by a squabble at turn one.
Alonso tried to slipstream his way past Magnussen into turn one after the Haas driver had moved ahead of him coming into the lap, but Magnussen was not willing to give up his time.
In the end, both almost came to a stop in the middle of the chicane, and could not improve on lap times that will see them start 11th (Magnussen) and 13th (Alonso) respectively.

Magnussen accused Alonso of acting like a "God", adding: "I can't wait for him to retire".
Alonso was similarly scathing, adding: "There are many classes of drivers and then there are the Haas ones, who have the third or fourth-best car of the grid and are out in Q2."
With those quotes put to him, Steiner said: "Fernando went to McLaren, which McLaren shouldn't be fighting to get out of Q1.
"So, I cannot help him there. I didn't make the decisions. He can talk for himself not for the others – that's a good starting point in life.

"It's a question for Fernando if he would have done it or not on somebody else.
"Yeah, he complains, but he complains about everybody, so that's how he gets away with it."
McLaren have had the slowest car all weekend at Monza and Steiner had forecast an issue when Alonso emerged ahead of a train of cars for the final Q2 runs.
Steiner said: "I saw them [his drivers] going out behind Alonso and that was like, 'Here we go…' but you don't want to say anything because it seems like you're paranoid, and then it happened.
"I think there is a trend there, but I think Alonso had nothing to lose and we had something to lose.
"On his [Alonso's] best day, today, they couldn't catch us. Even with the best slipstream ever it was impossible for him to catch him. If Kevin passed him before the Parabolica he must have had a reason."
